Rev. Giles Oren Bowman, Sr.

Reverend Giles Oren Bowman, Sr., age 82, of Charlotte passed away on Saturday, October 12, 2013 at Carolina's Medical Center in Charlotte, NC. He was born February 5, 1931 in Pinnacle NC, the son of the late Abner Gray Bowman and Wylia Needham Bowman. Giles attended High Point College and received a Master of Divinity from Duke University. He spent nearly 40 years pastoring Methodist churches across western North Carolina and spreading the Word of God. He enjoyed being around people and filling their lives with happiness and laughter. He always enjoyed the opportunity to travel to Daytona Beach or Myrtle Beach. After retirement he continued his love of people by being a school bus driver, substitute teacher, and fast food host. He was a loving husband, grandfather and great grandfather. He was married for 50 years to now deceased Kathryn Betsy Bowman. Surviving him are daughter, Debbie Harvey and husband Michael; son, Giles O. Bowman, Jr. and wife Sherra; grandchildren, Regan Bowman, Blaise Bowman, Joseph Lambert, Kathryn Caves, and Michael Lester Harvey; great grandchildren, Rylee Caves and Jackson Parker. A funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM Monday, October 14, 2013 at New Mount Vernon United Methodist Church in Wallburg, NC with Dr. Kenneth M. Johnson and Dr. George E. Thompson officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. Online condolences may be made at www.hayworth-miller.com.
