Rev. Otis C. Clampitt, 84, died Thursday, August 28, 2008 at his home in Clemmons following a lengthy illness. He was born March 4, 1924 in Macon County, the son of the late Rufus Richard and Hattie Cochran Clampitt. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Audrey Mae Brafford Clampitt. Rev. Clampitt was a veteran of World War II where he served as a Navy Corpsman attached to the Marine Corps and saw action in the South Pacific, Japan and China Theatres. He was a graduate of Piedmont Bible College where he taught for 18 years and served as a member of the college's board of directors. Rev. Clampitt was Pastor of Immanuel Baptist Church, Clemmons, for 40 years and later served as pastor of The West Bend Baptist Church for 7 years where he was active until his illness. He also was a member of The Pastor's Group in High Point and served as it's president. Rev. Clampitt also served on the Board of Directors. In addition to his wife, Audrey, Rev. Clampitt is survived by son, O. Clinton Clampitt, Jr. and wife Martha of Annapolis, MD; daughter, Vickie Clampitt Howard and son-in-law Dennis of Clemmons; son, Joel R. Clampitt and wife Tonia of Advance and son, Gaius G. Clampitt and wife Paula of Clemmons. Also surviving are grandchildren, Courtney Clampitt, Constance Clampitt Michael and husband Justin, Chris Clampitt, Hailey Clampitt, Brandon Combs and Trinity Combs. The family wishes to thank all those friends and caregivers for their prayers and support and invites all to a service of visitation on Saturday, August 30 from 6:00 until 8:00 pm at Hayworth-Miller Funeral Home on Silas Creek Parkway in Winston-Salem. Funeral services will be held on Sunday, August 31 at 2:30 pm at the Hayworth-Miller Chapel with Rev. Warren Kerr, Rev. Elmer Day and Rev. Buddy Lowman officiating. Interment will follow at The West Bend Baptist Church Cemetery on Shallowford Road. Memorial contributions may be made in honor of Rev. Clampitt's memory to West Bend Baptist Church, 9090 Shallowford Road, Lewisville, NC 27023, Immanuel Baptist Church, 1505 Lewisville Clemmons Road, Clemmons, NC 27012 or Hospice and Palliative Care Center, 101 Hospice Lane, Winston-Salem, NC 27103.
