Rev. Cook, Sr.

Rev. Henry Edward Cook Sr., 94, died on Tuesday, April 24, 2018, at his residence. Rev. Cook was born on April 2, 1924, to Silas Edward and Nannie Mae Cook. He was a member of Gospel Light Baptist Church for 18 years. He was a faithful servant of God and started preaching in 1949. Over the years, he pastored at Baux Mountain Baptist Church, Dan River Baptist Church, Northwoods Baptist Church, Boonville Baptist Church, and Old Fashion Baptist Church. Throughout his 43-year career he also preached on several radio stations. While he enjoyed rabbit hunting and fishing, he was most happy when he was preaching. Rev. Cook was a U.S. Army Veteran who served in World War II and was awarded two purple heart medals. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Lorene LaPrade Cook; one son, Henry "Bud" Cook Jr.; one daughter, Evelyn C. Georgeff ; one step-son, Jeff West; two sisters, Rosie Church and Minnie Crews; and four brothers, Bill Cook, Calvin Cook, Sid Cook, and Wesley Cook. Surviving are his loving wife, Bernice Goodman Cook; one son, John Cook (Sandra); four daughters, Nancy C. Compton (Evans), Connie C. Wiles (Clinton), Phyllis C. Bowers (Benny), and Kay C. Johnson (Cliff); two stepsons, Barry G. West and Terry B. West (Cindy); 22 grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; 46 great-grandchildren; and nine great-great-grandchildren. Also surviving are one brother, Herbert Cook; and two sisters, Elizabeth Slate and Mary Stevenson (Rick). A funeral service will be held at 1pm on Tuesday, May 1, 2018, at Gospel Light Baptist Church with Pastor Gary Styers, Pastor Mike Manuel and Pastor Steve Roberson officiating. Rev. Cook will lie in state from 9am until 12:30pm on Tuesday, May 1, 2018, at Gospel Light Baptist Church. The family will receive friends from 5-8pm on Monday, April 30, 2018, at Gospel Light Church. Interment will follow service at Gardens of Memory Walkertown.
