Rev. Douglas Rowe Couch, 88, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Thursday, April 19, 2018. He was born in Detroit, MI on March 29, 1930, the son of the late Dorothy Evelyn Couch and Richard Harry Couch. Early in his life he felt God was calling him into the ministry. He received his biblical training at Bob Jones University and graduated with a B.A. degree in 1952. That same year he was ordained to the ministry, married his childhood sweetheart, Sally and assumed the pastorate of his first church in Salem, MI. Following two other pastorates, Doug's heart was moved toward missionary service. He and his wife joined Baptist mid-missions in 1970 and ministered with the family in Australia, where he was instrumental in planting churches, a bible college and a Christian camp, after which Doug became a representative for the mission until his retirement in 1996. He then continued as a pulpit supply and interim pastor. He was awarded an honorary Doctorate of Divinity degree from Bethel College in Hartsell, AL in 1990. His hearty laugh and spontaneous smile were so much a part of his nature. He had a servant's heart to honor the Lord and encouraged others he met. It was his great joy to preach about missions in many churches in the U.S. and hold conferences for missionaries in Spain, France, Brazil, Peru, Haiti, Chile and Australia. He loved his family and delighted in the adventures of being a grandpa. Doug was a member of Grace Baptist Church on Peters Creek Pkwy where he served as a deacon and on the missions committee. He leaves loving memories to be cherished by his wife of 65 years, Sally Couch; daughters, Linda Marks (Larry) and Joy Larson (Rich); son, Scott Couch (Tonya); brother, Richard Couch; and sister, Gladys Pittard. As well as 18 grandchildren; and 5 great-grandchildren. To allow all his loved ones to be present, a memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 5, 2018 at 3:00 pm at Grace Baptist Church. The family will receive friends from 1:00 - 2:45 pm at the church prior to the service. A private family interment will take place prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Baptist mid-missions at P.O. Box 308011 Cleveland, OH 44130. Online condolences may be made at www.hayworth-miller.com
