Rev. Donald "Don" Wayne Griffin, 77, of Winston-Salem, NC, peacefully passed into the immediate presence of his Savior on Sunday, October 4, 2026, at his home.
He was born on February 13, 1949, in Forsyth County, NC, to the late William Rufus Griffin and Hattie Mae Hudson Griffin.
Rev. Don was blessed to serve as pastor of Union Cross Moravian Church and Bethabara Moravian Church during his 32 years of ministry. Prior to that, he and his wife, Ms. Carol, were youth leaders at Fairview Moravian Church. He took to heart the Apostle Paul’s instructions to “Be imitators of me as I am of Christ.” I Corinthians 11:1 - encouraging us all to walk daily emulating the love and life of Jesus, aware of God’s promises of renewed strength and lasting peace.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Carolyn "Carol" Adams Griffin; one brother, Wallace Griffin; three sisters, Betty Lou Talley, Shirley Sonbert, and Linda Bennett; and his mother in-law, Edna Teague.
He leaves a legacy of faith, hope, and love with his children, Tammy Shimfessel (Keith), Kristy Sapp (Joel), and Jeff Griffin (Amanda); eight grandchildren, Ian, Kyle, Owen, Morgan, Caroline, Malachi, Kerry, and Carly; five great-grandchildren; three siblings, Ken Griffin (Shirley), Cleo Willard-Weems, and Carol Sue Nelson (Wade); and numerous nieces and nephews.
A service to celebrate his life will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 11, 2026, at Fairview Moravian Church. The family will receive friends following the service at the church. Interment will take place on Monday, October 12, 2026, at 2:00 PM at Salem Moravian Graveyard - God's Acre.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Moravian Board of World Missions, or to Samaritan's Purse.
