Rev. Warren E. Kerr, 89, of Winston-Salem, passed away on Thursday, August 11, 2016, at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem, NC. He was born in Durham, NC on December 3, 1926, son of Ethel Mae Peed Kerr and Theodore Roosevelt Kerr. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Louise Kennedy Kerr; his brother, Wallace Kerr and his wife Evelyn; his sister, Marion Oates; a granddaughter, Noelle Thorpe; a sister-in-law, Alice Guess and her husband Dewey; and a sister-in-law, Betty Lamb and her husband Bill. He and his wife, Louise, surrendered their lives to Jesus Christ together in 1947 and he felt the call to become a Pastor shortly after that decision. He served as Pastor of Faith Baptist Church, Durham, NC; West Hill Baptist Church, Hillsborough, NC; Pearce Baptist Church in Zebulon, NC; Hinshaw Street Baptist Church, North Wilkesboro, NC; Hope Valley Baptist Church, Durham, NC; and New Friendship Baptist Church, Winston-Salem, NC where he retired from in 1990. After retirement he was the Interim Pastor of Hinshaw Street Baptist Church, North Wilkesboro where he was later named Pastor Emeritus; Enon Baptist Church, East Bend, NC; Robinhood Road Baptist Church, Winston-Salem, NC (twice); Oakview Baptist Church, High Point, NC; Maplewood Baptist Church, Yadkinville, NC; Lewisville Baptist Church, Lewisville, NC; Huntsville Baptist Church, Yadkinville, NC; Forbush Baptist Church, Yadkinville, NC; and West Bend Baptist Church, Lewisville, NC. As a Pastor for 60 years, he dedicated his life to sharing with others how they could know Jesus and join him in a journey of faith reflected in his favorite hymn, ""My Faith Has Found a Resting Place."" He was a member of Robinhood Road Baptist Church. He was a former member of the General Board of the Baptist State Convention of NC and a former Moderator of the Brushy Mountain Baptist Association and the Liberty Baptist Association. He is survived by two sons, Rev. Leland Kerr of Winston-Salem and Dana Kerr and wife Sue, of Winston-Salem; two daughters, Cynthia Cash and husband, Don of Charlotte, NC and Susan Thorpe and husband, Randy of Winston-Salem; eight grandchildren, Jason Kerr and wife, Cindy of Winston-Salem, Jeremy Kerr and wife, Rev. Julie Hoplamazian of Brooklyn, NY, Joel Kerr of Winston-Salem, Michael Kerr and wife, Natalie of Nutley, New Jersey, Melissa Browne and husband, James of Rougemont, NC, Rebecca Gonzalez and husband, Armando, of Charlotte, NC, Andrew Cash and wife, Sarah of Colorado Springs, Colorado and Nick Thorpe and wife, Heather of Raleigh, NC; three great-grandchildren, Aedan and Brendan Kerr and Maclaren Browne; his sister, Rachel James and husband, Dr. Samuel James of Midlothian, Virginia; a brother-in-law, Dempsey Oates of Durham, NC; and numerous nieces and nephews. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 3:00pm on Sunday, August 28, 2016, at Robinhood Road Baptist Church in Winston-Salem with Rev. Leland Kerr, Dr. Samuel James and Rev. John Hackworth officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service at the church.
