Rev. Jack Thomas Nance, 88, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, April, 16, 2018. He was born on April 20, 1929 to Patty Lane Nance and Ethel Aaron Nance in Pelham, NC. Following two years of military service in the U.S. Army, Jack worked at Burlington Industries for a period of time. When his call to ministry came, he answered; serving the community for over 50 years as a Moravian minister. He also served as chaplain at The Brian Center in Winston-Salem for many years. Jack was the kind of man who never met a stranger. He worked hard and enjoyed his wife's home cooking. He never used a cane but hand-carved hundreds of beautiful, wooden canes for others to enjoy. Jack found pleasure in simple things like playing the banjo, working in the garden, and he prized his Model A Ford. He especially enjoyed spending time at his mountain retreat and Laurel Ridge Moravian Camp. Jack was devoted to the church; preaching every Sunday, up to the week of his death. He was preceded in death by an infant son, Jack Todd Nance. Surviving are his loving wife of 67 years, Vera Kirkman Nance; one son, Rodney Nance; one daughter, Kashemi Lambeth (Kim); two grandsons, Brian Lambeth (Amanda), and Perry Lambeth; three great grandsons, Jack, James and Silas; two brothers, Maynard Nance and Paul Nance; and three sisters, Allene Kallam, Alma Clark, and Sue Gunn. A funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM, Monday, April 23, 2018 at Community Fellowship Moravian Church with Rev. John Rights and Rev. David Merritt officiating. The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 PM, Sunday, April 22, 2018 at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek. A private graveside committal will be held at Moravia Moravian Church graveyard. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Community Fellowship Moravian Church, PO Box 397, Welcome, NC 27374. Online condolences may be made at www.hayworth-miller.com.
