Rev. James (Jim) Edward Smith entered his Triumphant Life on Wednesday, August 14, 2019 at Silas Creek Rehab Center in Winston-Salem, NC following a lengthy period of declining health.  James was born in Wayne County, NC on December 29, 1933 to Exie Wells Smith and Jim Berry Smith.  After graduating from High School, he received his BA from High Point College in 1958 and his BD from Wesley Seminary, Washington DC in 1964.  He served in three conferences for thirty-nine years serving twenty-four churches retiring from Western North Carolina Conference in 1996.  Jim was a true “Man of God” always willing to go where God called, serving and preaching God’s word from his heart.  He was a beloved pastor and friend who exemplified grace, love and peace even when he could not communicate with words.  He will be greatly missed.  He was predeceased by one sister, Joyce S. Hare and one brother, Billy Smith.  Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Mariam Stallings Smith; three daughters, Carolyn S. Walch (Artie), Jana S. Ashcraft (Scott) and Sherri S. Bonham; one son, Michael J. Smith; 5 grandchildren; two great grandchildren and one brother, Shelton Smith. A graveside service will be conducted Monday, August 26, 2019 at 11:00 AM at the Newman Cemetery in Goldsboro, NC with Rev. Kenne Davenport officiating.  In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.  Online condolences may be made at www.hayworth-miller.com.
