Richard "Pepaw" Thad Boyd

Richard ""Pepaw"" Thad Boyd, 82, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family on Thursday, November 5th, 2015. He was born June 24, 1933, in Forsyth County, NC to the late Joseph Boyd Jr. and Stella Temples. He enlisted and served his country in the United States Marine Corps from 1950 to 1954, during the Korean War. He retired from Krispy Kreme with 26 years of service and from Davidson Dental Prosthetics with 15 years of experience. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by the love of his life, his wife of 50 years, Gladys S. Boyd and a special nephew Steve Woody. Survivors include his six children, Betty Gay Ely (Kyle) of Myrtle Beach, SC, Ricky Boyd (Vickie Snider) of Lexington, NC, Randy Boyd (Brenda) of Winston Salem, NC, Corinne Snow (Tommy) of Winston Salem, NC, Sandra Boyd Martin of Clemmons, NC, and Thad ""Peanut"" Boyd (Karen) of Winston Salem, NC; a special stepson, Derek Woody (Kim) of Advance, NC; four special nieces and nephews, Rex, Wesley, and Susan Woody, and Judy Ingram; four siblings, Juanita Carter, Tom Boyd, Sharon Moser, and Kathy Cook; and a very special friend, Mary Coleman. He also leaves behind 22 grandchildren and 34 great-grandchildren who appreciated and loved him dearly. The family will welcome friends to celebrate Pepaw's long and meaningful life at 11:00 am on Sunday, November 8, 2015, at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel. Interment will follow the service at Parklawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm on Saturday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to Hospice of Davidson County, 200 Hospice Way, Lexington, NC 27292.
