Richard Edwards, Jr.

Richard B Edwards (Dick) peacefully passed away at home with family at his side on December 2, 2018. Dick was born July 24, 1948 in Warsaw, NY.

Dick is survived by his loving wife of 50 years Bonnie Edwards (nee Hale); a son Jeffrey Edwards, daughter Jennifer (Frank) Muscarella, daughter Jill (Brad) Smith and son, Jeremy. Dick was the proud grandfather of his grandsons Frankie, Tommy & Logan and his granddaughter Tessa.

Dick proudly served his country in the Navy receiving an honorable discharge. A truck driver for most of his life, he was a lifelong resident of Wyoming County, NY until moving to the warmer climates of North Carolina in 1993.

Dick was a volunteer firefighter for 35 years in Wyoming County with the Genesee Falls, Gainesville & Castile Fire Departments in which he had held various positions including Chief. He also served many years as an EMT instructor. He was Mayor of the Village of Gainesville for two terms. He always loved to help people out and even after moving to North Carolina, he continued his service as a volunteer at the Kernersville Medical Center.

In the rare moments that Dick wasn’t either working or volunteering, he was an avid fisherman, always a prankster and enjoyed riding his motorcycles.

A gathering of family and friends are welcome to attend a memorial service at 4:00 PM Saturday, December 15, 2018 at Hayworth-Miller Kernersville Chapel located at 141 Smith-Edward Road in Kernersville NC 27284. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

There shall be a memorial service in his previous hometown in Wyoming County, NY to be announced at a later date.

In lieu of flowers memorials in his name can be sent to American Legion Post 55, 111 Miller Street, Winston-Salem, NC 27103 or Gainesville Fire Department, 2 East Street, Gainesville NY 14066.
