Richard E. Hill

Richard E. Hill, devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and dear friend to all who knew him, passed away peacefully at his home in Winston-Salem, surrounded by his loved ones, on July 20, 2026, at the age of 82.

Richard was born on April 22, 1944, in Baltimore, Maryland, to the late William and Lucy Hill. As a young child, his family moved to Winston-Salem, where he spent the rest of his life building deep roots in the community he loved.

Richard graduated from Reynolds High School and proudly served in the United States Army from 1965 to 1967 as an Army medic stationed at Fort Polk, Louisiana. He spent many years as Vice President of Maintenance for Kentucky Fried Chicken before founding R&E Services, where he continued working in the maintenance industry until his retirement. In 1985, he and his wife, Evon, founded Angie's West End Records. Together they promoted the Clemmons Record Show from 2015 to 2025. During the 1970s and early 1980s, Richard also generously gave his time coaching baseball for Mineral Springs Little League and serving as secretary and league representative for Pop Warner Football.

Richard had a lifelong love of music and the record business. He especially enjoyed Doo-Wop and Rockabilly and found great joy in sharing his passion for music with younger generations. Richard also enjoyed classic cars, fishing, birdwatching, spending time with family and friends, and watching sports. A devoted fan, he faithfully cheered for the Carolina Hurricanes, Atlanta Braves, and Wake Forest Demon Deacons.

Richard was preceded in death by his parents, William and Lucy Hill; his brothers, Bill and Kenneth Hill; and his beloved great-grandson, Landon.

He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Theresa Evon Hill; his son, Rick (Lisa) Hill; his daughter, Angie (Wayne) Conley; his seven grandchildren, Kurstin, Wayne, Andrew (fiancée Abby), Emily (Alex), Olivia, Eliza, and Ian; his three great-grandchildren, Leyton, Maverick, and Hazel; his brother, Gene Hill; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Wayne & Shelby Sankey; and many cherished nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.

A visitation for family and friends will be held from 5:00-7:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 25, 2026, at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel, 3315 Silas Creek Parkway, Winston-Salem, NC 27103, with military honors rendered at 5:00 p.m.
