Richard William Kost

Dr. Richard W. Kost, DDS, 75, of Winston Salem passed away February 5, 2024, at the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. He was born March 24, 1948, in Mt. Vernon, Ohio, the son of William K. and Clarice (Batten) Kost. He attended Ohio State University School of Dentistry. Upon graduation he went to live and work in Winston Salem, NC where he worked in his profession for 46 years, retiring in 2019. Prior to going to work at Winston Salem Dental Care in 1978, he worked for North Carolina DHS, where they provided dental services to patients in underserved areas. While at Winston Salem Dental Care, he and Dr. Ron Hutton also worked with local groups to provide free dental treatment to underprivileged families. He loved his family, traveling, fly fishing, sailing, cooking, and eating good food, (especially his sister’s pies, orange rolls, and grandma’s mincemeat pie!) jazz, flying and fast cars! He was an avid reader and always had several books he was reading. He was a curious and adventurous man! Surviving him are his son, Jacob Kost of Winston Salem, his daughter, Lindsay Kost Gonzalez of Winston Salem; five grandchildren, Ava Gonzalez, Elliana Gonzalez, Chloe Gonzalez, Kinleah Kost and Kye Kost; sisters, Linda (William) Pond and Mary Lou (Dave) Reynolds, both of Tulsa, Oklahoma. Niece and nephews, Jennifer (Pond) Lassman (Mark), Steven Pond (Brandi), David Reynolds (Carol), and Chris Reynolds (Milli); ten grand nieces and nephews and many friends, near and far. We especially wish to thank his friends/workmates who stayed close to him to the end, especially Dr. Ron Hutton, Sharon Watson-Brown, Debbie Dosek, and Luis Tello. He was much loved by all who knew him. There will be no formal services at this time. A burial will be held at a later date in his hometown of Mt. Vernon. Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel is serving the family of Dr. Kost.
