Mr. Richard Eugene Powers, 75, of Clemmons passed away Saturday, December 28, 2013 at the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. Mr. Powers was born in Springfield, Massachusetts on November 6, 1938 to James and Jessie Nichols Powers. He was a Veteran of the United States National Guard. Mr. Powers graduated from the University of Connecticut with a B.A. in Political Science and a M.S. in Public Administration. He worked for the Department of Interior for 42 years, the majority of which were with the National Park Service, retiring as the Associate Regional Director, Administration. Mr. Powers was an active member of Holy Family Catholic Church. He was a true Red Sox fan, who was so happy the 2013 World Series Championship was won in Boston, just for him. Mr. Powers was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, James Robert Powers. He is survived by his wife Judith; three children, Michele Fields and husband Todd of Fuquay-Varina, Gary Powers and wife Allison of Davidson, and Kathleen Phillips and husband Patrick of Clemmons; nine grandchildren, Nicholas, Alexis, Anna, Grace, Claire, Kendall, Sophia, Luke, and Eli; a sister, Carolyn Fontaine and husband Lester of MA; nephews, David Fontaine and Paul Fontaine, and a niece Martha McLaughlin. A Memorial Mass will be conducted 11:00 am Friday, January 3, 2014 at Holy Family Catholic Church. Inurnment will follow in the church columbarium. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 pm Thursday, January 2, 2014 at Hayworth-Miller Kinderton Chapel.
