Richard M. Winn, Jr.

Mr. Richard M. Winn, Jr. 87 of Clemmons, NC died on Friday, August 19, 2016 at the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. He was born in Clarksville, TN, the first son of Dorothy C. Winn and Richard M. Winn. He graduated from Duke University in 1950 and was hired by R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company, but his career was interrupted by the Korean War, which he spent in the U.S. Army in Sendai, Japan. After rejoining the company, he met and married Caroline Peters Winn of Fauquier County, Virginia, who would be his wife for 58 years. Mr. Winn retired from R.J. Reynolds in 1993, where he was Director of Leaf Purchasing. Along with his wife, he is survived by two sons, Richard M. Winn, III of New York City and Joseph W. Winn of Winston-Salem and one brother, Howard Winn and sister-in-law Patricia Winn of Clarksville, TN. His volunteer activities included the Sir Walter Raleigh Lions Club of Raleigh and the Kiwanis Club of Clemmons. A funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 PM Wednesday, August 24, 2016 at Clemmons United Methodist Church by Rev. Paula Northrup and Dr. J. Matthew Burton, Jr. Burial will follow in Westlawn Gardens of Memory. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Clemmons United Methodist Church, 3700 Clemmons Rd. Clemmons, NC 27012 or to the donor's choice.
