Ricky Lynn Vickers

Ricky Lynn Vickers of Germanton passed away at the age of 74 on June 10, 2026 at Mountain Valley’s Joan & Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson. He was born on July 24, 1951 in North Wilkesboro to the late Jack Dempsey (J.D.) Vickers and Arlene Porter Vickers.

Ricky retired in 2018 from a fulfilling career in trucking (J.D. Vickers Trucking/R.L. Vickers Trucking). He enjoyed spending time with his wife and children, going to his grandchildren’s various sporting events and activities, and doting on his granddoodle Millie.

He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Shelly, who was the love of his life. He will be missed by his two wonderful children, Derrick (Jennifer) and Catherine, and his precious grandchildren, Jack and Charlotte.

He loved his family and made sure they were taken care of until the very end, in his own quiet ways. He was selfless and caring and instilled that in his children and grandchildren.

The family extends a heartfelt thank you to Hannah Creed, Kelley Waite, Amanda, Heather, Lindsay, and all of the Mountain Valley Hospice staff, nurses and providers who are truly angels on this earth. The family is also extremely grateful to Joe Holder and the Rural Hall Fire Department for their care and compassion to Ricky while he was at home.

To honor his wishes of no formal service, the family will host a visitation on Sunday, June 28th 3:00pm-5:00pm at Hayworth-Miller Funeral Home in Rural Hall.
