Robert "Bob" Mack Absher

Mr. Robert “Bob” Mack Absher, 100, of Kernersville, NC, passed away on Tuesday, July 21, 2026, at the North Carolina State Veterans Home of Kernersville, NC, surrounded by his family.

He was born on February 2, 1926, to the late Mack Coy “M.C.” Absher and Eugenia Bledsoe Absher in Ashe County, NC.

Bob joined the United States Navy in August 1943, serving in the South Pacific during WWII as a diesel mechanic. He served as a Petty Officer Second Class and was honorably discharged on April 6, 1946.

Bob worked in Quality Control at Western Electric, subsidiary of AT&T, before retiring in 1987. He enjoyed a long retirement, playing golf almost every day, watching NASCAR racing and staying very active well into his late 90’s. He always enjoyed spending time with family and friends and quietly lending a helping hand to those around him.

In addition to his parents, Bob was preceded in death by his beloved son, Larry Absher; and his loving wife of 64 years, Audrey Nell Absher.

Those left to cherish his memory include his two sons, Jim (Debbie) Absher and Kevin (Debbie) Absher; four grandchildren, Jimmy (Jessica), Dwayne (Kisha), Justin (Melisa), and Ryan Absher; and five great-grandchildren, Trevor, Leanna, Kyndal, Kylie and Kynley Absher.

Bob’s final two years were spent living at North Carolina State Veterans Home of Kernersville. He was well loved and cared for by the entire staff. He insisted on doing everything himself, which kept the nursing staff on their toes!

A funeral service will be held at 12:00 PM on Saturday, August 8th, 2026, at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek with Rev. David Merritt officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Burial will immediately follow the service at Forsyth Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations may be made to the Masonic Home for Children at Oxford, 600 College St., Oxford, NC 27565.
