Robert George ""Bob"" Clayton, husband of Sudie Hanes Clayton died peacefully December 4, 2016 at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice House. He was born to JoAnnie Yarbrough Clayton and Algie E. Clayton in Milton, NC (Caswell County). He joined the US Navy in 1943 at the age of 17 upon graduation from Hanes High School. He served in the Asiatic Pacific theatre earning the American Theater and Asiatic Pacific battle stars and victory metals. Upon his retirement from First Union Bank, he volunteered as a driver for Cancer Services until his 80th birthday. His other community activities include membership in the Konnoak Hills Lion Club, (Jack Stickley and Melon Jones Fellow) and United Commercial Travelers (Past Senior Counselor). As a charter member of Konnoak Hills United Methodist Church, he served as chair of the Administrative Board and in other capacities as needed. He never met a stranger and had a genuine interest in others. Bob was an avid sports fan especially ACC basketball and football. He was especially fond of baseball and was a Chicago Cubs fan. What a gift they gave him by winning the 2016 World Series! Bob is survived by his wife of 70 years and two daughters, Martha (Ernest) Clayton Logemann and Susan (Kelly) Moorefield. He is also survived by two granddaughters, Katherine Clayton Logemann and Anna Louise Logemann, and two step-grandsons, Cassidy and Chase Moorefield. Others survivors include a sister, Nellie Clayton, niece Linda Overfelt, and other nieces and nephews in North Carolina, Florida, New York, South Carolina, and Virginia. He was predeceased by his a sister, Virginia Love, and a brother Peter Glenn as well as 4 brother and sisters-in-law. A Celebration of Life Service will be conducted Thursday at 12:00 Noon at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel with Rev. Ron Perry officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. The family wishes to thank Hospice, Homestead Hills and Live Long Well Care.
