Robert was born in Hamilton County, Tennessee to Margaret Starnes Dent and Victor Hugh Dent. He attended UNC at Chapel Hill, earning his bachelor's degree in English. He worked with his father in their family-owned business until his retirement. After his father passed away, Robert was a devoted caregiver to his mother. Robert loved fine art, music and literature. He always made sure there was food and water for the birds in the beautiful gardens he cultivated when he lived in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, and when he moved to Winston-Salem. He possessed a keen intellect, a delightful sense of humor, and great love for his family and friends. He made every visit with his younger relatives memorable and fun with his lively reading of stories and fierce playing of board and card games. Robert was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Minnie Lou Dent Raper. He is survived by niece, Margaret Lou Rehder, (David,) and nephew Victor William Rader, (Janet,) and his great niece, Nicole Christine Rader and great nephew, Kyle William Rader, his cousin Marvin Beasley, (Martha,) and devoted friends: Parks and Mary Berryhill. The family is very grateful to the caregivers and staff at the Brian Center and to Hospice of Winston-Salem for their loving care of Robert. Thank-you to Pastor Jack Nance and his wife for their ministry to all at Brian Center. There will be a gathering of family and friends at the Brian Center at 10:00 AM on Friday, March 16th and a graveside service at the Gaston Memorial Park at 1:00 PM Saturday, March 17th.
