Mr. Robert ""Ted"" Dowell, 81, died on Wednesday, June 28, 2017, at Hospice of Davidson County. Ted was born in Wilkes County on November 8, 1935, to Robert Lee and Artie Mae Dowell. A US Army veteran, he served during the Vietnam conflict as a Specialist 4 in the 3rd Armored Cavalry, and was also a member of the Boy Scouts of America, where he was an Order of the Arrow recipient. He was a past president of the Lewisville Civic Club, and an active member of the American Legion post 522 and River Oaks Community Church. He retired from the U.S. Postal Service after many years of loyal service. He will be remembered as a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, uncle, and brother. He was dearly loved and he will be deeply missed. In addition to his parents and two brothers, he was preceded in death by his loving wife, Norma Dowell. Surviving are one daughter, Lori Fearington (Tandy) of Lexington; one son, Neil Dowell (Starr) of Gastonia; three grandchildren, Jacob Fearington (Tia) of Salisbury; Ashley Dowell of Gastonia, and Erica Dowell of Gastonia; and one great-grandchild. Also surviving are two brothers, Ronnie Dowell (Lucy) of Deep Gap and Johnny Dowell (Sharon) of Winston-Salem; and several nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held at 2pm on Saturday, July 1, 2017, at River Oaks Community Church with Pastor David Beaty and Pastor Tommy Vestrat officiating. Interment will follow at Westlawn Gardens of Memory in Clemmons. The family will receive friends from 12:30pm-1:45pm on Saturday, July 1, 2017, at River Oaks Community Church.
