Robert Stimson Green

Robert Stimson Green, 92, passed away on Tuesday, September 13, 2016. He was born April 16, 1924 to the late Robert Olin Green and Julia Stimson Green, on the Stimson family farm by the Yadkin River in Forsyth County. He grew up in Lewisville, NC where he graduated from Lewisville HS and was a member of Lewisville United Methodist Church. He volunteered for the U.S. Army during WWII and served from March, 1943 to April, 1946 - being discharged at the rank of Sergeant. He attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill after the war, graduating in 1952 with a BA in Business Administration. In 1953 he joined the Social Security Administration and retired in 1987 as the District Manager in High Point, NC after 33-plus years of service. He was a very active Assistant Scoutmaster with Troop 1 in High Point, and assisted many Scouts on their path to the rank of Eagle. The family enjoyed many memorable camping vacations to the NC mountains and coast over the years.
Bob was the definition of a family man and was totally committed to supporting his family's growth and dreams. Nothing came before family, regardless of the personal sacrifice. He was also a man of high integrity who strived to do the right thing, always. And, he was, indeed, quite a character. He will be sorely missed by those who knew and loved him.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Lewis Heitman Green. Surviving are his beloved wife of 61 years, Jean Berry Green, sons Bobby and Bill Green, daughters Jana Newsome and Sherri Branch, grandchildren Will Green, Hunter Newsome, Evan Newsome, Haley Newsome, Matt Branch, Caitlin Branch and his sister Hattie-Ann Hauser.
A private, family funeral service will be held at Lewisville U.M.C. on Sunday, September 18, 2016 with the Reverend Dr. Ivan Peden officiating.
