Robert Lewis "Bob" Rustad

Robert Lewis "Bob" Rustad, 88, of Winston-Salem, NC, passed away peacefully on September 16, 2026. He was born on March 9, 1938, in Aberdeen, SD, to Elmer and Berniece Rustad.

Bob earned a degree in business from the University of Virginia, where he played basketball, participated in ROTC, and was a member of both Sigma Nu and Theta Tau Engineering Fraternities. He went on to serve his country in the U.S. Navy as a lieutenant aboard the USS Sims and the USS O'Hare. He later built a career of more than 30 years with IBM, beginning in Norfolk, VA, and continuing after his move to Winston-Salem, retiring in 1995.

In Winston-Salem, Bob was an active member of New Philadelphia Moravian Church. He gave generously of his time to many volunteer causes, including the Kiwanis Club and his church. An avid runner and member of the Twin City Track Club, he completed the Boston Marathon and ran the Marine Corps Marathon twice. In his leisure time, he enjoyed reading, painting, and working crossword puzzles.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Elmer and Berniece Rustad, and his sister, Patricia Herrmann (Walter). He is survived by his son, Michael Rustad (Sarah Forbes), and his daughter, Michelle Crouch (Michael).

A service celebrating his life will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, October 10, 2026, at New Philadelphia Moravian Church, with The Rt. Rev. Sam Gray officiating.
