Mr. Robert Lashmit Nelson, 93, of Charnel Road, passed away peacefully on Friday, July 5, 2024, at his home. He was born on November 15, 1930, in Forsyth County, to the late Kenneth Bruce and Margaret Lucille Lashmit Nelson. Mr. Nelson was a member of Fraternity Church of the Brethren, where he served as a deacon and in many other capacities. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served during the Korean Conflict. Prior to his military service, he was a dairy farmer, and then had several other jobs before retiring from Roadway Express with 26 years of service. He was a good man, loving and tenderhearted to the fullest, yet tough, strong, and hard working. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather, who adored his family very much. Survivors include his loving wife of 73 years, Ferald Gray Pilcher Nelson; a daughter, Marcia Hill (Urchel) of Advance; a son, Randy Nelson (Chris) of Winston-Salem; grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who all called him "Pop", Kevin Reed and wife Megan (Shianna, Jaden, Landen, Noah, Luke, Lily), Kipperly Miller and husband Nick (Tanner, Trevor, Tucker), Brian Hill and wife Rebecca (Brock), Brittany Holder and husband Jonathan, Jordan Nelson and wife Julie, Lori Genevie and husband Dan (Luke, Ben), Jeff Hill and wife Felicia (Mia), and Maranda Brown and husband Juston (Piper, Sadie); a sister, JoAnn Shields of Winston-Salem; and many nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 PM Sunday, July 7, 2024, at Hayworth-Miller Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held 11:00 AM Monday, July 8, 2024, at Fraternity Church of the Brethren.
