Robert "Pawpaw" Franklin Wilson

Robert Franklin Wilson, also known as Paw Paw, passed away on October 17, 2023, at the age of 89 in Oak Ridge, North Carolina. He was born on June 3, 1934, in Oak Ridge. Paw Paw was a man of great integrity, honor, and had a very strong work ethic. He served as an amazing role model to his family, friends, church, and community. Paw Paw was a farmer until the end, taking pride in mowing and keeping the fields neat. He never expected more from someone than he expected of himself. He had a youthful spirit and enjoyed playing with his many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Paw Paw loved his wife Dorothy dearly and cherished their time together. In his career, Paw Paw retired from Vicks after dedicating himself to his work. He also served in the Army, proudly associating himself with the military. Paw Paw worshipped at Bethel Methodist Church, where he found solace and strength. He wore his faith close to his heart. Outside of work and church, Paw Paw had a variety of hobbies. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, showing Tennessee Walking Horses, farming, gardening, and watching the Braves play baseball.

Paw Paw is survived by his three daughters, 15 grandchildren, and many great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Dorothy Wilson, his mother Beatrice Wilson, his father Sollie Wilson, two sisters, and one brother.

A funeral service to celebrate Paw Paw’s life will be held at 3:00 pm, Thursday October 26, 2023 at Hayworth Miller Kernersville Chapel. Burial will follow at Bethel Methodist Church. The family will receive friends from 6-8 pm, Wednesday October 25, at the funeral home. The family invites all who knew and loved Paw Paw to attend and share their memories. In memory of Paw Paw's life, his family kindly requests that donations be made to Bethel Methodist Church. The Wilson family is grateful for the support and assistance provided by Hayworth Miller during this difficult time.
