Robert Lonzo Perkins, Sr.

Winston-Salem- Mr. Robert L. (Lonzo) Perkins, Sr., of Winston-Salem died August 14, 2008 from complications of cancer at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center. He was born May 7, 1927 in Selmer, TN to the late Tommy and Jewel Perkins. Mr. Perkins was an active member of Pinedale Christian Church for over 30 years. He was a veteran of World War II and retired from McLean Trucking Company with 36 years of service and also retired from Budd Security with 20 years of service. Mr. Perkins is preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Lula Brashier Perkins and his brothers, George Albert and Jim Perkins of TN. He is survived by his eight children and their spouses, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Perkins, Jr. of Clemmons, Mr. and Mrs. Philip Howell of Salisbury, Mr. and Mrs. Mike Perkins of Smith Mountain Lake, VA, Mr. and Mrs. Steve Perkins of Winston-Salem, Mr. and Mrs. Crawford Born of Winston-Salem, Dr. and Mrs. D. Clay Perkins of Elizabeth City, Mr. and Mrs. Scott Downs of Clemmons, and Mr. and Mrs. Tony Perkins of Winston-Salem; also surviving are 14 grandchildren, 3 step-grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great step-grandchild. A funeral service will be conducted at 10:00am, Monday, August 18, 2008 at Pinedale Christian Church with the Pastor Bill McKenzie and the Pastor Ed Sears officiating. Burial will follow at Forsyth Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6:00pm until 8:00pm on Sunday at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel.
