Mr. Robert “Robbie” Glenn Brewer, 53, of Winston-Salem, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, August 9, 2025. Robbie was born in Forsyth County on October 30, 1971.
Robbie was a mechanic by trade but best known for his talent behind the wheel of a racecar. As an early teenager in the mid 1980’s, Robbie began racing in the 4-cylinder division at Bowman Gray Stadium in a pieced together pink race car. He moved to Alabama in 1994 to be close to his father who excelled at dirt racing. Robbie followed in his father’s footsteps and began racing at East Alabama Motor Speedway in Phenix City, AL in a car owned by his father. He found early success, winning rookie of the year in his division.
In 2001, Robbie relocated to the Winston-Salem area and transitioned back to asphalt racing at Bowman Gray. He didn’t find success at first. He was struggling against the competition, not because of a lack of talent but because he was a one-man crew. Most drivers showed up with large teams of men and women to help them but not Robbie. He worked on the car alone and did whatever it took to get it to the track every Saturday night. Two men noticed he was battling each week alone and wanted to help. Brad Robbins and Jeff “Red” York started working with Robbie on his car which immediately led to multiple wins in the limited sportsman series at Bowman Gray. Robbie experienced a lot of success for many years in the limited sportsman division at Bowman Gray Stadium including numerous wins and a track championship in 2011.
Robbie was known for his car control and being able to maneuver a race car in ways that nobody else could. This was especially evident when he began driving a modified. What began as helping a fellow racer out turned into a close friendship for Brad and Robbie. Brad owned a modified car, and Robbie would come to the track and help him when he wasn’t racing. Eventually Brad had to step away from driving and asked Robbie to drive his modified car. They were very successful, winning races and Robbie became Brad’s full-time driver for his modified. The biggest names in modified racing at Bowman Gray and other local tracks were impressed by what Robbie could do behind the wheel, often asking Robbie, “how did you do that?” His skill and talent were evident but more importantly, his friendly demeanor and willingness to help others was always on display. Robbie had a good soul and would do anything for anyone that asked. He will be deeply missed by his loving family, friends, and fellow competitors.
Robbie was preceded in death by his mother, Toni New. He is survived by his fiancé, Angel McCarter; daughters, Maranda Renigar (Michael), Courtney Marquette (Tate), and Krista Paquette (Norman); grandchildren, Cooper Renigar, Carson Renigar, Bristol Renigar, Hudson Marquette, Landyn Brendle and Kash Paquette; father, Glenn Brewer (Dianne); and sisters, Michelle Moseley and Melinda Britt.
A private celebration of life service will be held. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to Victory Junction, 4500 Adam’s Way, Randleman, NC 27317. Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel is serving the family of Mr. Brewer.
