Robert Sapp

Mr. Robert Henry Sapp, 87, of Arbor Acres Retirement Community, passed away on
March 14, 2018 at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice and Palliative Care Center after a brief period of declining health. Bob was born on May 14, 1930 to the late William Lindsay Sapp and Jessamine Cooper Sapp in Winston-Salem, where he lived nearly all of his life. He graduated from Reynolds High School in 1948 and from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, NC, in 1952. After serving in the United States Navy from 1952 to 1954 in New York, he earned his law degree in 1957 from the UNC School of Law. He then joined the Internal Revenue Service in Washington, D.C., but decided to return to Winston-Salem in 1959 to open a private practice of law. He enjoyed a long and fulfilling legal career here, eventually in practice with David Pat Mast, Jr., who remains a true friend. Bob was a longstanding member of the Forsyth County and North Carolina Bar Associations, a past President of the Sertoma Club, and a member and past Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Maple Springs United Methodist Church, where he taught Sunday School. Bob was selflessly devoted to his wife Barbara Sterling Sapp, who died in 2016, to his daughter Leslie Marie Sapp, who died in 2011, and to his loving son, Robert Douglas Sapp of Winston-Salem, who survives him. His brothers, William Lindsay Sapp, Jr. and Richard S. Sapp predeceased him. Throughout his life Bob was unfailingly kind, courteous, generous, and truly appreciative of all that life had given him. He expressed many times his gratitude for the fine care provided him at Arbor Acres and by the caregivers from Piedmont Home Health Care. A graveside service will be held on Saturday March 17, 2018 at 12:00 Noon at Forsyth Memorial Park, with Rev. Gary Mahathey officiating. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to The UMAR Clingman Home, c/o UMAR Services, Inc., 535077 Center Drive, Charlotte, NC 28217, or to the charity of the donor's choice.
