Robert Joseph Scott

Robert Joseph Scott passed away peacefully at his home on Sunday, March 22, surrounded by his loving family. Born on October 13, 1942, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Bob was the son of Mark and Margie Scott, who preceded him in death, along with his brothers, Jack Scott and James Scott.

Bob attended Hargrave Military Academy, followed by Miami Military Academy during his high school years. He graduated from LaSalle College in 1965 and earned his law degree from Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, in 1968.

Following law school, Bob served as an Assistant District Attorney in High Point, North Carolina, before opening his own law practice. He dedicated more than 50 years to serving the High Point and Kernersville communities with integrity, professionalism, and a deep commitment to others. Bob served as President of the High Point Bar Association and was widely respected for his leadership and dedication to the legal profession. Throughout his career, he also gave generously of his time, often providing pro bono legal services to those in need. He gave freely to others—family, friends, his church, and those he served through his work—never seeking recognition, but doing so quietly and without fanfare.

Bob is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Rhonda, with whom he built a life centered on family and faith, including their cherished farm in Kernersville. Though a city boy at heart, Bob found great joy in gardening, caring for his cows and horses, and stepping outside after a long day—often in his cowboy boots and ball cap. His passion was being on the water, and his favorite place in the world was Chincoteague Island, where his family shared many memorable boating adventures together.

He was a devoted member of Kerwin Baptist Church for more than 40 years, always willing to serve and support his church in any way he could. He cherished the fellowship of its members, where his family was deeply rooted.

Above all, Bob was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He is survived by his four children: Robert Scott; Julie McCann (Michael); Laura Lauer (Chris); and Alan Scott. His children and nine grandchildren were the absolute highlight of his life, and he loved attending their athletic events and activities. He cherished time with his grandchildren, singing doo-wop songs with them, sharing his love of music, and taking them fishing—passing on his joy for the water and creating memories they will carry with them forever. A gifted storyteller, Bob’s charisma and magnetic personality contributed to his lovable charm and made him truly the genuine article.

Bob will be remembered for his steadfast presence, his love of family, his deep commitment to helping others, and his enduring faith—a life rooted in purpose, generosity, and grace.

"Well done, good and faithful servant… Enter into the joy of your Lord." — Matthew 25:23
