Robert Steven “Steve” Carithers

Robert Steven “Steve” Carithers, 77, passed away Wednesday August 21, 2024. He was born October 19, 1946, to the late Harry Lee Carithers and Silbie Holt Carithers in Forsyth County. A retiree of Wake Forest University with 25 years of service in facilities. Steve made it a point to help others without care of what he received in return. His serving heart was shown through many years of service to the fire department, earning the rank of Eagle Scouts in the Boy Scouts of America, and being involved in the Order of the Arrow. Even without looking for recognition Steve was awarded the American Red Cross Merit Award in 1964 for saving a teens life. He enjoyed helping his daughter with projects, took pride in maintaining his yard, always had a smile on his face or a joke to tell, and was a lover of animals particularly his grand dogs and cat. Steve loved sports, especially NASCAR racing, Wake Forest athletics, and Carolina. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Linda Carithers Hart, and a special grandmother, Inez Rominger Holt and his best friend Man Dog. Steve is survived by his loving wife, Janet Masencup Carithers, a daughter Allison Carithers Muldovan (Jason), two nieces; Michelle Allison (Randy) and Morgan Masencup Roland (Caleb), nephew Will Mclean, great-niece Reagan Swaim, two great-great-nieces; Addison Swaim and Kenzleigh Swaim, and two sisters-in-law; Donna Lewis, and Ginger Mclean. A celebration of life will be held at 2:00pm Sunday August 25, 2024, at Covington Park in Rural Hall with Rev. Andrew Craver officiating. The family will receive friends following the service in the park picnic shelter. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Boy Scout Troop 914, 6840 University Pkwy Rural Hall, NC, US 27045 or the Rural Hall Fire Department, 177 Rural Hall-Germanton Rd, Rural Hall, NC 27045.
