Robert "Bob" Brandquist

Robert "Bob" Carl Brandquist, 90, died April 17, 2019, after a brief illness. He was born on Feb. 20, 1929, in Chicago, Il to Carl and Olga Brandquist, who both preceded him in death. He was married to Dolores Bollmann on Sept. 10, 1949, who also preceded him in death. His marriage to Ruth Jean Leidorf on August 29, 1959, lasted for the next 60 years. He was educated at Lane Technical High School in Chicago, II and at Northwestern University in Evanston, II, where he received a B.S. in Chemical Engineering in 1952. He joined Corn Products Refining Co. and continued to work there for the next 47 years, retiring in April 1997. He was a Process Engineer at the Argo and Corpus Christi plants until 1958, and worked at the Moffett Technical Center in Argo, II and the Central Engineering Department in Chicago, II, as a Process Engineer, Instrument Engineer and Director of Instrument Engineering. He was transferred to the Pekin, II Plant in 1970, as Technical Manager and Plant Manager at Corn Products and Vice President of Operations for the Pekin Energy Company. He moved to Winston-Salem in 1985 and was the General Manager until his retirement. He devoted his career to improving the technology of the Corn Wet Milling Process and to enjoying his many friends and coworkers throughout the years. He had been active in the Instrument Society of America, the American Institute of Chemical Engineers, the Pekin, IIlinois Chamber of Commerce, the Central Illinois Industrial Association, and several business and charitable organizations, including Leadership W-S. He was active at Messiah Moravian Church in Winston-Salem, serving on the church board on several occasions and as a Central Trustee. He served as a Director and Treasurer of the WSSU Foundation, President of the ARC of Forsyth County and was Director Emeritus of the Marshall B. Bass Children's Fund. He is survived by his loving wife Ruth; two sons, Roland Brandquist of the home, and Richard Brandquist (Lisa) of Kernersville; a daughter, Robin Richardson (George) of Peoria; and Annie Louise, his devoted dog. Also surviving are three grandchildren, Dustin and Brittany Brandquist and Kaylee Richardson; three step grandchildren, Blake, Brandi and Brandon; and three step great grandchildren, Aiden, Ailana, and Arabella. A funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 PM, Monday, April 22, 2019 at Messiah Moravian Church, 1401 Peacehaven Rd., Winston-Salem, with Rev. Jerry Harris officiating. Visitation will be held for one hour prior to the service at the church. The graveside service will be in Venice Cemetery, Margaretta Township, Erie County, Ohio. Memorials may be given to Messiah Moravian Church, the Enrichment Center or to a charity of your choice. Online condolences may be made at www.hayworth-miller.com.
