Mr. Robert “Bob” Frank Thornton, 91, died on Monday, February 4, 2019, at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. Bob was born on September 14, 1927, in Forsyth County to Fallie Curry and Jesse Frank Thornton. He was a WWII veteran of the U.S. Navy and retired from McLean Trucking with over 40 years of service. He attended Mars Hill University and was a charter member of Pinedale Christian Church, where he was an Elder, chairman of the board, and Sunday school teacher. Bob also loved traveling, he and his wife visited all 50 states. He was dearly loved and will be deeply missed. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Doris Kittle. Surviving are his loving wife of 56 years, Nancy Atkins; one son, Jeff Thornton; and three sisters-in-law, Jonia Widener (Jeff), Cathy Eaves (John), and Gaye Kelley (Jim). A memorial service will be held at 2pm on Saturday, February 9, 2019, at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel with Mr. Matthew Sink officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Pinedale Christian Church, 3395 Peters Creek Pkwy, Winston-Salem, NC 27127. Online condolences may be made at www.hayworth-miller.com.
