Ronald "Butch" West

Ronald “Butch” West, 82, passed away at his residence on December 8, 2025.

Butch was born in Forsyth County on January 31, 1943, to the late James Roger West and Ruby Moser West. He was employed with R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Co. as a machinist, retiring after 20 years of service.

Butch was a volunteer fireman for over 30 years for Cornatzer-Dulin Volunteer Fire Department in Mocksville. He was a member of the Advance Masonic Lodge #710 and a member of Cornatzer Baptist Church.

Butch enjoyed boating and fishing, especially at Belews Lake, and trips to the beach. He was an avid Wake Forest football and basketball fan. In support of his grandson, in later years Butch enjoyed supporting West Point, especially Army Black Knights football.

Most of all, Butch enjoyed spending time with his family. He is survived by his loving wife of 28 years, Betty Comer West; daughter, Kristy Gaines (Jeremy); stepsons, Daniel Lasley and Derrick Lasley; grandchildren, Zachary Gaines and 1LT Jordan Gaines; siblings, Judy Rumple, Barry West (Carol), Linda Myers (Steve), Vicki Landingham (Dug) and Suzi Needham; and many special nieces, nephews and extended family.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, December 20, 2025at 10:00 am at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel, with Rev. Mary Beth Beck Henderson officiating. A celebration of life will immediately follow the service at Imprints Cares, 711 Coliseum Plaza Ct., Winston-Salem, NC 2716.
