Rosa Slate

Mrs. Rosa Lee Slate, 88, of Winston-Salem passed away Saturday, September 30, 2017 at her home. She was born July 4, 1929 in Iredell County, the daughter of the late Pitts H. and Rosa Simpson Satterwhite. Mrs. Slate graduated from Catawba College and started her teaching career in 1951. She taught school in Mt. Airy and Winston-Salem. Following her retirement, she continued to substitute teach until 2016. She was a woman of faith and courage. She also had a tremendous love for family and friends. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Lucy Gibson. Survivors include her husband, James B. Slate of the home; two sons, James Slate, Jr. (Robyn) and Thomas S. Slate (Sharon); one daughter, Laura Lee Slate (David Ball); four grandchildren, Meredith Avery, William Slate, Elizabeth and Thomas Slate; and one brother, Tom Satterwhite (Carolyn). The funeral service will be conducted Wednesday, October 4, 2017 at 12:00 noon at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel with Rev. Christa Warise officiating. Interment will follow at Cleveland Cemetery in Rowan County at 2:30pm. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
