Roy D. Lister

Roy D. Lister, 73, went home to be with the Lord on October 15, 2013 at his home in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. Roy was born April 16, 1940 to Roy Oliver Lister and Mary Catherine Schneider in Louisville, Kentucky. He graduated from the University of Louisville with a degree in chemical engineering and went to work for Goodyear of Ohio. After brief stints with companies in Florida and New Jersey, Roy returned to Ohio and began working for Rubbermaid, Inc., in the research and development division, designing products for the Winter Play/Water Play lines, as well as food keepers. After trusting Christ as his Savior, he left his job, moved to Texas, and attended Arlington Baptist College to study the Word of God. He continued his engineering career at Eagle Pitcher as a plant manager. In time, he developed and patented a new design for hydrocyclone technology, a cone-shaped device that separates liquids or solids from water. The ""FloChamp"" was patented and sold to a number of businesses, the largest of which was Amoco. Roy started two companies based on this new technology in 1990, Hydro Separation Systems, and Hydro - Petroleum Cyclones, Inc. He eventually sold the companies and ""Hydro-Swirl"" cone to MPE, Inc., which in turn was purchased by NATCO Group, Inc. Roy worked for NATCO until his retirement, and then became a consultant for the business. Most recently, he served as a consultant with ESI, based out of Houston, Texas. Later in life, Roy discovered a talent for writing. He authored more than a dozen books, most with biblical themes. His most recently published book is The Prisoner, a fictionalized account of the life of the Apostle Paul. Roy is survived by his wife of 17 years, Terri Lister; his children and their spouses, Robbyn and Rev. Trevor Hubbs, Fred and Kathy Lister, and Lauren Kessinger Vargas; and four grandchildren, Caden and Katie Lister, and Maiah and Gabriel Vargas. He was preceded in death by both parents, his wife Karen and an infant daughter Catherine. Before he succumbed to the effects of his cancer, Roy was a faithful member of the Heritage Hills Baptist Church in Winston-Salem. A celebration of his life led by his church pastor, Rev. Jennings O'Neil, will take place at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 19, 2013, at Hayworth-Miller Funeral Home, 3315 Silas Creek Parkway, Winston-Salem, NC 27103.
