Roy Nelson

Kernersville- Rev. Roy Wayne Nelson, 73, passed away on Tuesday, October 10, 2017 at Wake Forest Baptist Health. Wayne was born on November 4, 1943 in Forsyth County to Roy Vester and Bessie Osborne Nelson. He retired from RJ Reynolds with over 34 years of service. Wayne was the former Pastor of Valley View Baptist Church.

In addition to his parents, Wayne was preceded in death by his brother, Bobby Nelson; and his sister, Diane Buchanan.

Surviving are his wife of 54 years, Carol Nelson; two sons, Tim Nelson (Falia) of Winston-Salem and Shannon Nelson (Jill) of Walkertown; a daughter, Penny Enscore (Richard) of Rural Hall; seven grandchildren, Daniel Enscore (Megan), Ashlyn, Chase, Ramsey, Will, Belle, and Noelle Nelson; one great grandson, Kaiden Enscore; and one brother, John Nelson (Peggy) of Kernersville.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, October 13, 2017 at Hayworth Miller Kernersville Chapel with Brother Don Collins officiating. Burial will follow at Sunlight Baptist Church in Kernersville. The family will receive friends from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. Thursday, October 12, at the funeral home.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to the doctors and staff at Duke University Medical Center for their expertise and continuous care of Wayne's double lung transplant in 2008.
