Roy L. Spach

Mr. Roy L. Spach, 98, of Winston-Salem passed away, Thursday, December 12, 2013 at the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. He was born May 29, 1915 in Forsyth County, the son of the late Robah and Virginia Ebert Spach. Roy retired from RockTen Corporation with 45 years of service. He was a member of Pine Grove United Methodist Church where he served as head usher. He was an original incorporator of both Southfork and Clemmons Fire Departments and served as Deputy Chief at both departments. Roy was named Forsyth County Firefighter of the Year in 2006. Beside his love for his family, Roy loved raising his garden and fishing at the coast! In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Clyde Spach, Fred Spach and Floyd Spach. Roy is survived by his loving wife of 76 years, Ruth T. Spach; a son, R. L. Spach, Jr. and his wife Cindy Spach; granddaughters, Shannon Leigh Preston and her husband, Roger and Ashley Jane Pearson; great grandsons, Austin Kisner, Ethan Preston and Brody Pearson; brother, James and sister-in-law, Annie Spach; brother, Bill and sister-in-law, Avis Spach; sister, Lib Smith; sister-in-law, Sybilla Spach and many loving nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Sunday, December 15 at 2:00 PM at Pine Grove United Methodist Church with Rev. Robin Fitzgerald officiating. The family will receive friends following the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Pine Grove United Methodist Church, 1130 Jonestown Road, Winston-Salem, NC 27103 or to the charity of your choice.
