Ruby Hogue West passed away January 12, 2024, with her family surrounding her. She was born on August 31, 1938, to Nathaniel Walker Hogue and Gladys Hauser Hogue in Forsyth County. She worked at R.J. Reynolds and Bermuda Run Country Club but treasured her role as homemaker the most.
Ruby was married to her childhood friend and high school sweetheart, Jerry Wayne West, on December 19, 1959. They recently celebrated their 64th anniversary. They had two children, Cindy Mills (Ken) and Jeff West (Juli). She was best known as “Bootie” to her beloved four grandchildren, Jake Mills (Abby), Jason Mills, Hank West, and Margaux West. Ruby shared a special relationship with her cousin, Marcie Trenchard, and her two devoted friends, Libby Fulk, and Lynn Senger. Memories made with her niece, nephews, and other family members brought her much JOY and lots of laughter.
She loved everything about nature, taking special pride in her yard, flowers, and birds (especially hummingbirds and blue birds). Her home was always her haven as she enjoyed cooking, sewing, decorating and crafts. Christmas was her favorite time of year, and through her unique talent for painting Christmas ornaments and decorations, she created many memories and keepsakes for family and friends. A less hidden talent she held was her ability to always catch a fish even when none were biting.
While the 23rd Psalm and the Lord’s Prayer brought much comfort to Ruby, the one she delighted in the most even to the very end was 1 Corinthians 2:9 “No eye has seen, no ear has heard, no mind has conceived what God has prepared for those who love him.”
Ruby fought many physical battles over her lifetime and helped many MS patients throughout the years. She and Jerry worked tirelessly to support and raise money for the MS Society. In the same spirit, the family would like you to consider in lieu of flowers, donating in her memory to the COPD Foundation as that was her final battle. (www.copdfoundation.org) A private family service will be held at a later date.
