Ruby Jean Martin

Ruby Jean Smith Martin, passed peacefully into the arms of her Lord and Savior on Friday, January 4th, 2019 at Rose Tara Plantation in King, NC.  Ruby was born on January 17, 1935, in Laurel Fork, Virginia to the late John Alfred and Maude Dickens Smith.  She was preceeded in death by a sister, Sarah Smith and a brother John Smith.  Ruby is survived by her husband of 40 years, Fred Burton Martin of Rural Hall; a brother Olen Smith and wife Thelma of Dayton, OH; step-children Lynn E. Martin of King, Phyllis Dempsey and husband Chris of Pinnacle, NC, Glenn Martin and wife, Lynn, of Mooresville, Tony Martin and wife Cindy, of Tobaccoville; step-grandsons, Adam Martin of Denver, and Logan Martin of Mooresville; nephews,  Shane Smith and wife Mary Kay, and Kevin Smith of Dayton, OH.  Ruby was retired from Hanes Hosiery where she worked for 30 years.  She and her husband Fred played and sang with a gospel bluegrass quartet for a number of years.  They loved “Making Music Together”.  Ruby enjoyed drawing, painting and was a very talented watercolor painter.  She was a member of Stafford Baptist Church, where she played guitar, sang, and served as church secretary/treasurer and taught Sunday School until she was unable to attend due to health issues.  A service will be held at 2:00 pm on Monday, January 7, 2019 at Hayworth-Miller Rural Hall Chapel with Rev. Inger Manchester officiating. Visitation will be held at the funeral home one hour prior to the service.  Burial will follow at Love’s United Methodist Church Cemetery in Walkertown, NC.  In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made in Ruby’s memory to Mountain Valley Hospice, 129 Veterans Drive, Pilot Mountain, 27041.
