Rufus Angel

Mr. Rufus Gilbert Angel, 93, passed away Tuesday November 7, 2017 at Arbor Acres. He was born January 20, 1924 in Guilford County, the son of Rufus and Ollie Williams Angel. He was a member of First Christian Church and retired from Liggett-Myers as a buyer with many loyal years of service. A veteran of WWII, he served in the US Army as a forward observer with a field artillery branch of the 75th Division which defeated the Germans in 3 major battles. He was awarded three Bronze Stars for his service to our country. He is preceded in death by his parents; his wife Mary Newsome Angel; a baby sister, Terry Sue; another sister, Adele Angel Gibson and two brothers-in-law, Roland Gibson and Calvin Hartman. Survivors include a brother, Harris Angel and wife, Martha; a sister, Phyllis Angel Hartman; nieces Diana Hartman Kite and husband, Norman, Lori Hartman Wiltshire and husband, Greg, Tina Sagartz and husband, John; a grand-niece, Meghan Kite and grand-nephews, Brendan Kelley and Patrick Kite. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Friday, November 10, 2017 at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel. Interment will follow in Westlawn Gardens of Memory. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
