Russell Nifong

Mr. Russell Junior Nifong, 90, of Winston-Salem, went to be with his Lord and Savior Sunday, February 18, 2018. Mr. Nifong was born December 29, 1927 in Davidson County, to the late Russell Daniel Nifong, Sr. and Mattie Edmonia Ratledge Nifong. He worked for Hanes Knitwear for 27 years and retired in 1990 with 17 years of service from the City of Winston-Salem as a water plant operator. Mr. Nifong was the last surviving Charter Deacon of Faith Church where he also served as a Trustee. He enjoyed attending his kids and grandkids sporting events, growing vegetables, and raising horses, ponies, goats, and mules. Preceding him in death are his parents, a sister, Fairene Hill, and brother, Harold Nifong. Surviving are his wife of 70 years, Nancy Zimmerman Nifong; four children: Ronald Nifong (Judith), Cheryl Craver (Robert) of Clemmons, Danna Huneycutt (Danny) of Lexington, and Jan Malloy (Doug) of Lexington; six grandchildren: Kristal Cooke (Ryan), Amy Wood (Robert), Brook Ferguson (Jim), Zachary Huneycutt (Lauren), Benjamin Craver (Cara), and Brett Malloy (Paige); twelve great-grandchildren; two sisters: Thelma Leonard of Lexington and Lois Nifong; and brother: Arthur Nifong (Brenda). A funeral service will be conducted in his honor 11:00 AM Wednesday, February 21, 2018 at Faith Church, officiated by Pastor Mike Gates. Interment will follow at the church cemetery. The family will receive friends 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM Tuesday, February 20, 2018 at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Faith Church, 1078 Gumtree Road, Winston-Salem, NC 27107, and to Hospice of Davidson County, 200 Hospice Way, Lexington, NC 27292.
