Russell Jackson Simmons

Mr. Russell Jackson Simmons, 88, of Winston-Salem passed away Tuesday, November 12, 2013 at the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. He was born May 9, 1925 in Surry County to Eddie Franklin and Mamie Hiatt Simmons. He was a veteran of the US Army serving in WWII. Russell was retired from the Veteran's Administration Department, was an avid golfer , enjoyed woodworking, but his greatest pleasure was loving his grandchildren. His beloved wife of 69 years, Imogene Inman Simmons preceded him in death on March 9, 2013. Surviving are a son, Mike R. Simmons (Sherry); a daughter, Robin Simmons; two grandchildren, Matthew Simmons and Katelyn Middleton; and special friends, Ray and Glenda Cook, and Jeanne Dale. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday at Walkertown First Baptist Church with Rev. Phil Wagoner officiating. Burial will follow in Gardens of Memory in Walkertown. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Thursday at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel. Memorials may be made to Walkertown First Baptist Church, 5185 Sullivantown Road, Walkertown, N.C. 27051. The family would like to thank Homestead Hills Memory Care Unit, the 8th Floor East Ardmore Tower nurses and aides and staff of Kate B. Reynolds Hospice home for the love and care shown their dad.
