Ruth Virginia Garrison McDonnall

Ruth Virginia Garrison McDonall died March 18, 2014, at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center. She was born the youngest child of Lloyd and Claire Garrison in Rock Hill, South Carolina on May 17, 1924. She was preceded in death by her ten brothers and sisters and her husband of sixty-six years William ""Bill"" McDonall. A loving, caring Mother, she will be missed every day by her surviving daughters Linda Cay McDonall and Lisa Lee McDonall of Winston-Salem. Squeaky, her cat, will always be looking for her. Ruth worked for the War Department in Washington, DC and as a Anti Aircraft Gunnery Instructor in Newport, RI during World War II. She later worked at IBM Corporation for thirty years in the Office Products Division. She was active for many years at Union Ridge Methodist Church and later Ardmore United Methodist Church. She loved gardening and do- it -yourself projects. Upon retirement from IBM at the age of sixty-six, she embarked on a project of remodeling her daughter Lisa's house in Winston-Salem. Ruth was unfailingly helpful to family and friends with any projects. She also enjoyed antiquing, decorating her house and doing many projects throughout the years with her best friend, Margaret Goins. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 22, 2014 at 2 pm at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel officiated by the Rev. Marjorie M. McCarty.
