Ruth Reid Otey

KERNERSVILLE - Mrs. Ruth Reid Otey, 89, loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, passed away on Saturday, January 30, 2016. Born in Raleigh County, West Virginia on January 26, 1927, Ruth was the last of twelve children (8 sons and 4 daughters) born to James Alan and Elsie Pearl Meadows Reid. She was a homemaker who loved spending time with her family and was famous for her green beans! Ruth was a member of New Hope Baptist Church. Her kindred, angelic and loving spirit afforded her the nickname ‘Sweetie' to those that knew her!

In addition to her parents and siblings, Ruth was preceded in death by her husband, Gordon Cloyd Otey and a grandson, Jamie Morris.

Surviving are one son, Alan Otey (Sherry); two daughters, Renee Morris (Paul) of South Charleston, WV, and Pam Pizzino (Gary); five grandchildren; and 6 great-grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held at 12:00 noon, Tuesday, February 2, 2016 at New Hope Baptist Church in Winston-Salem, with Dr. Charles B. Carver officiating. Entombment will follow at Gardens of Memory in Walkertown. The family will receive friends from 11:00 - 11:45 a.m. prior to the service at the church.

The family would like to extend a heartfelt Thank You to the staff of Kernersville Medical Center and Oak Forest Rehabilitation for their loving care of their mother.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to New Hope Baptist Church, PO Box 4027, Winston-Salem, NC 27115.

Hayworth-Miller Kernersville Chapel is assisting the family.
