Our much beloved mother, Ruth Ramona Johnston Stone passed away at North Carolina Baptist Hospital on July 5, 2016. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ervin Willis Stone, on October 8, 2007 and is survived by her brother, Norman Johnston and children, Mark Stone, Alison Fields Joanne Giff, Melissa Taylor and Jack Stone. She is also survived by 12 grandchildren and one great grand-child. She was born on July 31, 1930 in Detroit, Michigan to Ruth Lillian and Knute Johnston and moved to the Washington, DC area during World War II. She married her husband on July 11, 1955 in Alexandria, Virginia, and subsequently lived around the world as he served the U. S. Foreign Service, building and raising her family overseas in such places as Thailand, Cyprus, the Congo, Greece and Taiwan. After retirement from the Foreign Service they lived in the Shenandoah Valley Virginia in Luray where they very happily lived and worked on their farm. She has been a resident of North Carolina since 1981 recently living in Mocksville where she earned her Master Gardener certification with the local garden club and was active in the lives of her children and grandchildren. Her heart was dedicated to serve her family until the last and she has set a noble example and standard for them. A graveside service will be held 11:00 AM Thursday, July 7, 2016 at Thomasville City Cemetery. Hayworth-Miller Kinderton Chapel is serving the family of Mrs. Stone.
