Sallie Virginia Miller Steelman

Sallie Virginia Miller Steelman, 97, passed away peacefully Monday, January 27, 2014 at the Winston-Salem Nursing and Rehab Center. She was born in Winston-Salem on June 28, 1916, to the late Grady W. Miller and Beatrice Gertrude Reavis Miller. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Morrison Odell Steelman, her grandson, Steve Fountain Lewis, Jr., and son-in-law, Ira C. Hartsell; three brothers, Grady Wilson Miller, Jr., ""G.W."", Charles Isaac Miller, and John Kermit Miller ""J.K.""; two sisters, Beatrice Gaynelle Cox ""Gay"", and Bertha Lee Barnowsky. She is survived by her daughter, Ann Steelman Hartsell; two great grandchildren, Ednarose Marie Saucier and Kyle Morrison Lewis, both of Long Beach, Mississippi; three brothers, Jerry Spicer Miller (Gudney), Larry Gray Miller (Rosemary), and William Reavis Miller ""Bill"" (Sue); one sister, Christina Marie Miller (Gene); and numerous nieces and nephews. Sallie Virginia was a long time resident of Winston-Salem and a long standing member of Calvary Baptist Church. She worked at R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company as a Department Inspector until her retirement in 1981. She was active in the NC Extension and Community Association and a member of Belk's Department Store's Advisory Board for whom she frequently modeled, especially for donations to the Cancer Society. Many of her family members and friends will remember her saying, ""Every day in my life is Christmas Day."" A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, January 31, 2014 at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel, with Dr. Gary Chapman officiating. Interment will follow at Courtney Baptist Church Cemetery in Yadkinville, NC. The family will receive friends on Thursday, January 30, 2014, from 6:00 p.m.-7:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
