Mr. Sammie Eldred Hatfield, 83, of Tobaccoville, passed away Wednesday, September 5, 2012 at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center. He was born April 23, 1929 in Branchland, WVA to Fred and Blanche Hatfield who preceded him in death. Mr. Hatfield was of the Baptist faith. He was retired from Gravely Tractor with 43 years of service. He was a WWII veteran, serving in the U.S. Navy. He enjoyed bowling and playing in many leagues, and loved the Atlanta Braves and NASCAR. Surviving is his loving wife of 33 years, Judy Taylor Hatfield of the home; one son, Robert ""Bob"" Hatfield of Nitro, WVA; a daughter-in-law, Sue Hatfield of Scot Depot, WVA; one daughter, Donna Turman and husband Fred of Clemmons; five grandchildren, Missi, Angie, Nikki, Bobby and Rhiannon; thirteen great grandchildren; and a special four-legged companion, Scooter. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 7 at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel. A private graveside will be at a later date.
