Sammy Flynt

Mr. Sammy Ernest Flynt, 68, of Winston-Salem was taken home to be with the Lord on Sunday, January 28, 2018. He was born and raised in Winston-Salem to Samuel Ernest Flynt and Ruby Osborne Flynt on August 30, 1949. Mr. Flynt is preceded in death by his mother and father; brother, Thomas Lee Flynt, and a nephew, Benjy Shane Flynt. Mr. Flynt served in Vietnam during that conflict. Sgt. Flynt was awarded the Bronze Star Medal for heroism on January 3, 1970 in combat in South Vietnam. Mr. Flynt also received the Army Commendation Medal and the Air Medal for his meritorious service in South Vietnam from August 11, 1970 to January 11, 1971 among other medals. Mr. Flynt was proud of his service to this great nation. He worked for Winn-Dixie and in roofing until he became disabled 25 years ago. Mr. Flynt has two children, Sammy Flynt (wife Carla) of Kernersville and Leslie Sykes (husband Eric) of Walkertown. He has five grand-children, Eric, Jr., Isaiah and Devin Sykes, Austin and Chandler Flynt. He also has two step grand-children, Sheridan and Madison Yokely. He has numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, and uncles. Mr. Flynt was one of five children. Surviving are one brother, Mike Flynt of Winston-Salem; two sisters, Becky Whaley (husband Tim) of Winston-Salem, and Debbie Flynt of Clemmons. Through the many years of suffering, Sammy is now at peace in the Arms of the Lord. He will be deeply missed by all that knew him. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Friday, February 2, 2018 at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel with Rev. Roy Flynt officiating. Burial with military honors will follow at Gardens of Memory in Walkertown. The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM on Friday at the funeral home.
