Samuel Ashburn

Mr. Samuel Odell “Sam” Ashburn, 96, passed away Thursday, August 15, 2019 at Forsyth Medical Center. He was born in Stokes Co. on July 7, 1923 the son of the late Samuel Roscoe Ashburn and Sudie Cline Ashburn. Sam was a faithful member of Rural Hall Moravian Church. He served for 20 years as a Scoutmaster with BSA Troop 914. Sam proudly served our country during WWII in the United States Army Air Corps. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife of 68 years, Bonnie Sue Reeves Ashburn; six brothers; and two sisters. Sam is survived by his two daughters, Sara Tucker (Tom) and Sue Ashburn; two grandsons, Adam Tucker (Liz) and Zach Tucker; twin great-granddaughters, Avery and Grace Tucker; and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family. A graveside service with military honors will be conducted 3:00 p.m. Sunday, August 18, 2019 at Rural Hall Memorial Park. A memorial service will follow at 4:00 p.m. at Rural Hall Moravian Church with Rev. Jim Newsome and Rev. Charles Fishel officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the memorial service at the church. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Keletha Palmer, Deborah Little and Angela Palmer for the special care and love shown to Sam in his time of need.
