Samuel “Sam” Lewis Chriscoe passed away on May 13, 2026 in Greenville, South Carolina. He was born on November 23, 1943, in Asheboro, North Carolina to Lewis and Mary Chriscoe. Sam left high school to become a diesel mechanic before joining the Navy Seabees where he did a tour of duty in Vietnam. Sam loved NASCAR, country music, animals of all kinds, fishing, flirting harmlessly with women young and old, and gardening. His tomato plants were taller than he was and he always had plenty to give away to friends and neighbors. He also loved to eat and would devour anything put in front of him, especially if it was fried.
Sam retired from his career as a transmission builder when his beloved wife of 52 years, Monica, developed dementia. He cared for her lovingly and patiently for nearly 10 years, amazing even his family. His kindness, sense of humor and love for people will be greatly missed.
Sam was preceded in death by his wife, Monica; son, Jamie; and two brothers, Charles Chriscoe and Johnny Chriscoe. Sam is survived by his daughter, Melanie (Mark); three grandchildren; Shyann, Jada, and Alex; and six brothers and sisters; Rosalee Surratt, Joanne Willis (Anthony), Jerry Chriscoe, Carlton Chriscoe (Debbie), Janice Martin (Terry), and Steven Chriscoe (Rachel). He is also survived by his sister-in-law; Debra Shearer, his brother-in-law; Bill Schlegel, as well as numerous nieces and nephews,
A graveside service will be held on Monday, June 1 at 2:00 PM at Parklawn Memorial Gardens in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. The Reverend Paul Titus will perform the service.
