Mr. Samuel Vance Shields, 82, of Winston-Salem died Thursday, November 27, 2014 at Forsyth Medical Center. He was born August 19, 1932 in Forsyth County, the son of the late Luther Samuel and Amy Myrtle Kimel Shields. Mr. Shields was a member of Olivet Moravian Church. He was a 1950 graduate of Griffith High School and retired in 2000 from Krispy Kreme Doughnut Corporation following 47 years of service. He was a 56 year member and Past Master of Salem Lodge #289, A.F. & A.M and Past Patron of Twin City Chapter #60 Order of The Eastern Star. He loved gardening, preserving and woodworking. He enjoyed making gavels for his friends. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his sister, Lucille Miller and his brother, Dallas Kimel Shields. Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Barbara Shields of the home; one daughter, Moyra Gunter and husband, Wayne of Lewisville; one grandson, Myles Gunter of Lewisville; one nephew, Kenneth Shields and wife, Lois of Pinnacle; and one niece, Kathy Seelman and husband, Paul of Dallas, TX. The funeral service will be conducted Sunday at 3:00 PM at Olivet Moravian Church with Rev. R. Donald Winters officiating. A Masonic graveside service will follow in the church graveyard.
