Sara Ferguson Nance

Mama is rejoicing, entering the gates of Heaven, and being reunited with her husband.

Sara Ferguson Nance grew up in the Mountain View area of Stokes County, the daughter of Gib and Reva Rutledge Ferguson. She married the love of her life, her high school sweetheart, Paul Nance. During her lifetime she worked at Krispy Kreme, Piedmont Airlines, then retired from Western Electric where she made lifelong friends with Brenda Berrier and Carol Brown. She also spent many years as a teller at CCB bank.

Mama was an excellent seamstress and sewed for over 100 people. She took great pride in making her daughter’s beautiful wedding dress. After she lost her husband in 1987, she was fortunate to travel all over the globe with friends, seeing many beautiful sites and making memories. Later she volunteered at WFBMC in the surgical family waiting room for many years as long as her health permitted.

She is preceded in death by her husband, parents, siblings Lib Morefield, Gates Ferguson, LaNell Neal and Hight Ferguson.

She is survived by her daughter and best friend, who she lived with in her last year, Lynn Hooker, and a son-in-law, Keith, who she loved dearly; her grandchildren that she absolutely adored, Justin Hooker and Kerri Bartash and special son-in-law Nick; her two precious great grandsons, Nicholas and Sebastian.

Thank you to her niece Robin Dills, cousin Judy Ferguson, and sweet friend Loretta Haithcock for staying with mama when needed. She looked forward to all of her niece’s calls each week and especially Ellen who loved her like a second mother and would call her faithfully every Wednesday and Saturday. Thank you to a special neighbor, Brenda Gilley that did so much for her.

Mama loved her family deeply, was a caring soul, and loved by many. Her presence brought joy to others. Knowing her made our lives better. Her faith was strong. Every morning she would read her devotion and pray for all her family and friends. She will be greatly missed but we know she is in the arms of Jesus and in no more pain.

Visitation will be at the home of her daughter, 102 Grabs Court, King, NC 27021 on Sunday, August 23, 2026 from 4:00-7:00PM.

Thank you to CenterWell of King, and to Trellis/KB ReynoldsHospice Home for lovingly caring for Mama in her final hours. Memorials may be made to Ronald McDonald House, 419 S.
